If you have been on Instagram at any point in the last few months you are sure to have seen many versions of this dress. I loved it instantly when I saw Kyra Prossers version but dithered about it getting it for so long. Would the plunge be too low? Would the kimono sleeves make my arms look massive? Would the length make me look short? I eventually decided that if I’d spent half the time making the dress as I had dithering about it I’d have made 4 already so I might as well buy it, and I, so glad I did.
I’d originally planned on making this for my late summer holiday to Paphos but as I started it as 5:30pm the night before it was never really going to happen was it. Instead of stressing out trying to finish at time I chose to leave it until I came back and wear it to Walthamstow market instead.
Pattern: Vogue 9253
Fabric length: 3 metres of narrow cotton (without tie)
What I changed
- I didn’t make the tie as I prefer the look without, and I also didn’t have enough fabric!
- I took about 5 inches off the midi length. I’m 5 foot 4 and I still had to do a deep hem to make it the length I wanted.
- I hand stitched the hem for neatness
What I’d change if I made it again
- Nothing! Hard to believe, I know. But I love how this turned out so I wouldn’t change a thing. I would like to try it in a drapier fabric as I think it would give a very different look. And also in a bottle green velvet for ultimate Christmas party dress goals.
And if you are wondering how on earth this dress is appropriate for Autumn well… it isn’t… but I’m hoping on getting a lot of wear out of it next spring and summer.
