SOI Eve Dress: My ultimate wrap dress

SOI Eve Dress: My ultimate wrap dress

May I present my new favourite dress – the Sew Over It Eve dress in this beautiful floral viscose from Like Sew Amazing.

I made this for a friend’s wedding in August and loved it so much I ended up wearing it to another wedding a week later. Its neckline is high enough to be appropriate for church, the wrap is adjustable so it doesn’t get uncomfortable after a big hog roast and the skirt is hella swishy which makes it perfect for superhero style dancing. Basically, it’s an all round perfect wedding guest dress!

The Sew Over It instructions were clear as always and the fabric was surprisingly ok to work with. When I pre-washed it I was really concerned as it came out as a tiny wrinkly ball. Thankfully, it hadn’t shrunk as much as I thought and a good iron sorted it out. As the fabric had a bit of stretch in it the stay tape on the bias cut neckline was a must. Despite a small bit of stretching, it looked fine in the end.

Even though I am delighted with how this dress turned out, there are a few things I’d change about the fit so I thought I’d share these in case any of you are thinking of making it.

Dress statistics

Pattern: Sew Over It Eve dress, version 1

Fabric: floral linen-look viscose from Like Sew Amazing

Fabric length: 3.5m (as recommended)

Size: 10

What I changed

  • I french-seamed the skirt but other than that, nothing!

What I’d change if I made it again

  • The shoulder seams sit quite far out so I’d take them in 1.5cm.
  • I’m 5’4” and the back of the dress was almost maxi length. I quite like the look on this dress but if I were to make it as a more casual dress I’d take about 10cm off the length.
  • Even though the ties mean the dress is adjustable, I found when I tied the dress then part of the bodice comes through the hole too if I tie it tightly. I think I’ll curve the waist in to an 8 when I make it again.

If you have any events coming up I’d really recommend the Sew Over It Eve dress. I think it would look killer in an autumn/winter print. A good dress pattern isn’t just for one season! I also think this would be a great dress to make if you are making one for someone else as there is minimal fitting needed.

Have you made the Eve dress? If you have a blog on it leave a link in the comments as I’d love to check it out!
